KAESLER - The Bogan Shiraz 2017
KAESLER The Bogan is sourced from 100% bush vine Shiraz that were planted in 1899 in the sub-district of Marananga in western Barossa. It's aged for 17 months in new and seasoned French and American oak.
Deep dark red to black with an amazing purple hue.
Aromas of blackberry and white pepper with hints of spice, as you would expect from good use of oak.
From the first mouthful it’s a flavour bomb, with its sweet black fruit in the front through to the seductive French oak on the very back of the palate. This, along with its silky tannins, should leave one very satisfied indeed.
The Barossa Valley is world famous for concentrated styles of Shiraz. Bogan Shiraz is well known to be a quintessential, full bodied style of Shiraz. The two Shiraz vineyards from which this wine is sourced complement each other well – The Marananga block provides intense, old vine produce with particular “blue fruit” offerings. The Nuriootpa block provides more “black fruits.” Winner of Australia’s Best Shiraz, Great Australian Shiraz Challenge.
By the time we were harvesting fruit for this wine we had already been in vintage mode for one month. On the morning of the 4th March we could see right from the start, that the 18 Bogan was going to be the great Barossa Shiraz, as the fruit just looked and tasted fantastic. After the second round of pump overs you could see that colour and flavour was never going to be a problem!
Vineyard Soil: Schist rock over blue grey clay and deep compacted broken down schist with red sandstone pebbles on the surface along creek line (Marananga) / Loam over clay (Nuriootpa)
