This is one serious shiraz!
Trevarrick was the original name of the Skillogalee property, settled by John and Anne Trestrail in the early 1850. In 1970 it was planted to vines and renamed. Now at Skillogalee, each individual contour block on the Estate is harvested and vinified separately. The Trevarrick name is reserved for individual wines that are of exceptional quality and varietal character.
Vintage 2012 is considered amongst locals as the most stellar red wine vintage in recent memory in the Clare Valley. The vineyards received ample winter rainfall to set them up for a long and mild growing season with flavour and colour development in the berries taking place concurrently and steadily over an extended period.
This is the first release of a Shiraz under the Trevarrick label. The wine has an attractive crimson robe with purple highlights. Aromas of black cherry, pan juices, mulberry and black pepper jump out of the glass. The palate is both medium bodied and sumptuous, with flavours of coffee, roasting herbs, black olive and boysenberry appearing in abundance with hints of spearmint on the finish.
The wine is crafted in a way that it can be enjoyed thoroughly upon release, but has the tannin and acid structure to develop for the next 10-15 years.
