Semillon
Pale green in colour, fruit characters of lemon, pear, green apple, white nectarine combine with more complex characters of lemon brulée, mineral, oatmeal and lemon grass from the natural yeast component and lees stirring while the barrel fermentation characters show as a smoky, toasty vanillin combo. The fine structured palate has a smooth creamy texture from maturation on yeast lees brought in check by spicy savoury oak and mouth watering citrus fresh acidity. This style of wine is best served slightly chilled with your favourite seafood (a great alternative to Chardonnay). With careful cellaring the 08 Juniper Semillon has a medium term cellaring of about 8 years.

Reviews:
"Oak influenced semillon is an acquired taste for many, but when the wood is applied with a deft hand its a taste worth developing. This WA example offers citrus, honey, lanolin and nutty aromas of good aromatic impact. The palate is creamy-smooth and richly flavoured with a tight backbone.

"An intense lemony varietal with a hunt of butter and toasty oak adding complexity. It has plenty of everything. Enjoy it now. ($26.00) 13.5% Screwcap - Recommended"
Winewise Volume 26 Number 6 - February 2011

"A complex and classy barrel-fermented Semillon that has plenty of rich, ripe citrus fruit, some waxy elements, custard spices and lemon barley. The palate’s full of flavour: really creamy lemons and mouth-watering acidity, long and layered. Very fine and fresh – gently toasty to close.

Nick Stock, The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald Good Wine Guide 2011

"Another complex Margaret River barrel-fermented Semillon that has plenty of richness - ripe citrus, some waxy notes and custard spices. The palate's creamy lemon is set against mouth-watering acidity that drives a long and layered presence with toasty build. 94 Points"

Juniper Estate is a producer of premium wines in Wilyabrup, the heart of the Margaret River winegrowing area. It is one of the oldest vineyards in the area. No sub-region has been historically more important in the success of Margaret River than Wilyabrup, where the first vineyards were planted and wineries built and which continues to be home to a disproportionately large number of famous, usually small, vineyards.

Juniper Estate was planted by Henry and Maureen Wright in 1973 on Harmans Road South, in its picturesque setting along the Wilyabrup Creek. The vineyard grows on the gravelly loam soils, which have produced so many of the Margaret River wines which now command Australia-wide and international recognition. More from this winery
